Australia’s ODI and T20I skipper Aaron Finch has undergone successful knee surgery and might be available for the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2021. The Australian captain’s recovery is expected to take 8 to 10 weeks and he seeks to get all ready for the 7th edition of the ICC T20 World Cup.
Aaron Finch suffered cartilage damage ahead of the series in West Indies. The right-handed batsman played 5 T20I games against the home side West Indies, but his injury returned in the final game. He returned to Australia for the surgery. After completing a two-week quarantine period, Finch underwent the operation on Thursday (August 12).
Aaron Finch’s Recovery Expected To Take 8-10 Weeks: Cricket Australia
Cricket Australia issued an official statement in which they mentioned that Aaron Finch’s recovery is expected to take 8-10 weeks.
“His recovery is expected to take 8-10 weeks meaning he should be available for the opening games of the World Cup in mid-October,” Cricket Australia mentioned in a statement.
Arron Finch might be able to make his inclusion to Australia’s squad for ICC T20 World Cup 2020. ICC T20 World Cup 2021 is slated to begin on October 17 in UAE. The tournament will feature 16 teams. However, the preliminary matches will begin from October 17 and the Super 12 round will start later.
Australia, among other teams like India, Pakistan, New Zealand, Afghanistan, West Indies, England, and South Africa, has already qualified for the Super 12 round. The groups for the tournament have been announced but the complete schedule is awaited. The final match will be played on November 14, 2021.
Australia have lost their last five T20I series against England, India, New Zealand, West Indies, and Bangladesh. Against West Indies in July this year, Australia lost the five-match T20I series 4-1. Against Bangladesh too, Australia suffered a miserable defeat 4-1 on the away tour.
Aaron Finch was not part of the Australia vs Bangladesh series. Matthew Wade led the team against Bangladesh. In the 5th T20I game, Australia faced their lowest-ever T20I total of 62 runs.
