Ravi Shastri, the outgoing head coach of Team India, has been approached by CVC Capitals, the owners of the Ahmedabad franchise, for the coach’s position for IPL 2022, as has been reported by Cricbuzz.

Ravi Shastri will be stepping down from his head coach position of Team India at the conclusion of the ongoing T20 World Cup. Former captain Rahul Dravid has been announced as the new coach.

The CVC Capitals wish to bring in Ravi Shastri as well as bowling coach Bharat Arun and fielding coach R Sridhar into their contingent ahead of the mega auction.

It has been learned that the franchise approached Ravi Shastri in Dubai, where the Indian team is playing the T20 World Cup. However, the head coach has taken time till the end of the World Cup to confirm his future plans.

Taking IPL coach role could prove conflict for Ravi Shastri as a commentator

Should Ravi Shastri take up the role in an IPL franchise, this would give rise to a conflict for his potential return to the commentary box.

“Association with an IPL team may prevent him from earning a direct commentary contract with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) because of the Conflict of Interest rules but he would try to sign up with the broadcaster directly, like VVS Laxman who has managed to do commentary while also being involved with an IPL franchise (as a mentor of Sunrisers Hyderabad),” the Cricbuzz report said.

“It is learnt that Shastri already has a few offers from some top broadcasters in the world, Star Sports and Sony Sports included.”

While the head coach “did not want any distractions” and hence hasn’t made his decision final, CVC Capitals, who roped in the Ahmedabad franchise for INR 5600 crore last month, are eager to finalize the backroom staff as soon as possible with an eye on the retentions to be announced.
