Ajinkya Rahane Slyly Hits Back At Critics After Lord’s Test

Indian middle-order batsman Ajinkya Rahane has taken a dig at the critics after his performance in the Lord’s Test against England. He top-scored for the Men in Blue in their second essay, adding 61 crucial runs to the lead.

The hosts had their tails up having dismissed Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli with India struggling at 55/3. Two out-of-form batsmen under immense pressure were at the crease, and another failure could have sent them into a deeper spiral.

However, Cheteshwar Pujara wore the bowlers out and survived a session. While the vice-captain, Rahane, displayed class in his strokes and reached his first fifty on the tour. Their 100-run partnership proved to be extremely crucial to India’s chances.

In the aftermath of the performance, Rahane took to social media to share a photo of himself. The 33-year-old was seen smiling and he captioned it:

My reaction when the trolls get trolled!

Following dismal performances in the last couple of years, the critics came knocking on the door for Rahane’s head. The composed Rahane was unflustered, however, and let his bat do the talking as was evident at Lord’s.

“Had he converted that fifty to a century, he would have been happier” – Virender Sehwag on Ajinkya Rahane

Rahane did most of the scoring in his partnership with Pujara before the latter was dismissed. India would be happy seeing both of them back in form but former Indian batsman Virender Sehwag reckoned things would have been even better if Rahane scored his second Lord’s century.

He played a really good knock. He had luck on his side as he got dropped on 39. He would be satisfied with his innings. Not happy off course but he will be satisfied after getting 60 odd runs to his credit. Had he converted that fifty into a century, he would’ve been happier,” Sehwag said on Sony Sports Network.

Despite the lack of form, the Indian team management continued to back both Rahane and Pujara and the two will be keen to repose the faith shown in them. The next Test will be played at Headingley, Leeds from August 25-29.
