India Test deputy Ajinkya Rahane will play for India A ahead of the England tour, a PTI report suggests.

India A is all set to play two four day games in English conditions, and Rahane can join the side which would be led by Karun Nair.

However, Rahane will link up with India A squad to prepare himself for the arduous England tour. Thus, if the right-hander plays for the Karun Nair-led team, he can get acclimatised to the English conditions. Consequently, it will help the India vice-captain.

It will be a good opportunity for Rahane to prepare for England tour.

Furthermore, Rahane is not part of India’s limited-overs squad which further gives him an opportunity to get himself ready for England Test series. India will play five Test matches in England after the limited-overs series.

In fact, Rahane is one of India’s better batsmen while playing in foreign conditions. Thus, he would like to deliver the goods to the number one Test side.

Moreover, if Rahane plays for India-A side, he can also unite with Rahul Dravid who is chief coach of the team. Ergo, the right-hander can take some imperative notes from the former Indian skipper who achieved great success while playing in the English conditions.

Thus, it would be a golden opportunity for Rahane to put his best foot forward for the pivotal England tour. Rahane had also scored a fine 103 in the 2014 tour of England at the home of cricket, Lords. India had gone on to win that match by 96 runs.

Meanwhile, India A will also play a limited overs tri-series against England Lions (England A) and Windies A before the four-day games. Shreyas Iyer will hold the burden of captaincy in the tri-series.
