Former Indian cricketer Anshuman Gaekwad feels that the stiff competition inside the Indian cricket team to represent the national side is the reason behind India’s success in the ongoing England Test Tour.  His words come after India bagged an incredible victory against England in the 2nd Test at Lord’s.

Trailing by 27 runs in the 2nd innings, the Indian team managed to set up a challenging target of 272 runs for England in the 2nd innings. In spite of losing 3 quick wickets at the start, India reached a huge total of 298-8 on Day 5 to put the English batting under pressure. Later, Indian pacers crushed England to a miserable 120 all-out, clinching the victory by 151 runs.

There Are Cricketers Waiting In The Wings To Take Over In The National Team: Anshuman Gaekwad

In an exclusive chat to Cricketnet.com, former Indian cricketer Anshuman Gaekwad mentioned that the reason behind India’s success on English soil is the tremendous competition between the players to bag a spot in the playing 11.

“This is happening because there are tremendous competitions for places, batting or bowling. There are cricketers waiting in the wings to take over and take on the challenge. The eleven players in the side have seen it. They know that no one is indispensable. It’s not like the earlier days. Now the players deliver, the moment they get a chance, they want to prove themselves. The players with ability have proved,” Anshuman Gaekwad said.

Anshuman Gaikwad also mentioned it has been always hard for Indian players to perform in England due to the challenging conditions while batting but mentioned that Indian players are showcasing their maximum potential in the ongoing series.

“They have the potential and are exploring it to the maximum level. It’s always been difficult for India’s players in England. The ball moves a lot right through the day. You need a specific technique to bat and bowl. The line and length changes, the direction of the ball changes. The pace and bounce, they have got adjusted to all this peculiarity in England, so well and so quickly. The batting could have been even better, only the middle order should be consistent and get more runs. The average will be better than 32 plus,” Anshuman Gaekwad further added.
