CSK on Tuesday announced their retentions ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction: Ravindra Jadeja (16 cr), MS Dhoni (12 cr), Ruturaj Gaikwad (8 cr), Moeen Ali (6 cr).
MS Dhoni himself had confirmed earlier that he won’t leave the IPL without playing another game at Chennai. The Ranchi-born took CSK to their fourth IPL title earlier this year, defeating KKR in the final.
Despite his decreasing batting prowess, MS Dhoni remains the master tactician and the inspiration leader at CSK. Viswanathan stressed the significance of the 40-year-old captain as the leader.
“Thala has been the mainstay of CSK. He has been a captain who has delivered for us. He gets the best out of the team every time he plays. As far as we are concerned, Thala plays a major role because he controls the team, and the team is benefitted by his experience. Nobody can doubt his skills as a captain,” Viswanathan said in a video posted by the franchise.
It will be our endeavour to go and try for Faf du Plessis: CSK CEO
CSK preferred all-rounder Moeen Ali, 34, over the 37-year-old Faf du Plessis, who was the second-highest run-scorer in the 2021 season and was Man of the Match in the final.
Apart from Faf, other long-time CSK servants such as Dwayne Bravo and Suresh Raina were also released. Kasi Viswanathan is hoping to get some of them back in the mega-auction.
“We look forward to getting them back. For example, Faf has been a team man who has taken us to the finals of two important seasons. It will be our endeavor to go and try for him. But it’s not in our hands.
“We wish them all the very best wherever they are. We look forward to having a very good 2022,” the CSK CEO commented.
Viswanathan also is hoping to have a full-capacity crowd at the MA Chidambaram Stadium next season. The 2022 edition is reported to start on April 2.
