With the T20 World Cup coming up next month, Australia is taking no risks and will not use David Warner and Marcus Stoinis in the third Dettol ODI match against New Zealand on Sunday in Cairns.

In the 23rd over of New Zealand’s innings on Thursday, one over after he had dismissed Jimmy Neesham, Stoinis left the field due to a side problem and did not return for the remainder of the game.

He sat on the sidelines for the last overs of the Kiwis’ innings after spending five overs in the Australian pavilion while Ashton Agar took his position in the field.

Nathan Ellis Added As Marcus Stoinis’ Replacement

The Australian selectors will need to be cautious with Marcus Stoinis’ workload with the T20 World Cup approaching after he was forced to quit the tour of Sri Lanka in June due to a side strain he sustained while batting.

In preparation for Australia’s three-match T20I trip of India from September 21–26, Stoinis will get rehabilitation in Perth.

Nathan Ellis, a fast bowler who just concluded a tour in England with Hampshire and London Spirit, has been added to the team as Marcus Stoinis’ substitute.

Josh Inglis Most Probable To Cover Up For David Warner

Warner, who has left the team to spend more time at home before a busy cricket season of 12 months, has no known injuries.

Warner’s decision not to go to India for this month’s T20I series had previously been made known, in contrast to the rest of Australia’s T20 World Cup team.

During the current ODI tour in northern Queensland, Mitch Marsh had to leave after the first ODI against Zimbabwe in Townsville due to an ankle injury.

The wicketkeeper Josh Inglis, who made his ODI debut in the fifth ODI in Sri Lanka in June, took his spot. He now appears certain to add to his total of ODIs.

Aaron Finch will play his final one-day international game against New Zealand on Sunday after the Australian skipper declared his retirement from the sport earlier today.

Prior to tomorrow’s game, the starting lineup for Australia’s last encounter of the series will be announced.

Updated Australia squad: Aaron Finch, Sean Abbott, Ashton Agar, Alex Carey, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Josh Inglis, Marnus Labuschagne, Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa
