Australia and South Africa face each other in the third and final Test of the three-match series in Sydney starting from January 4. The series is a part of the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 which is slowly coming to a close. The Aussies have already won the series winning the first two Test matches. They are also leading the WTC points table.

South Africa, on the other hand, have dropped fifth on the points table. They succumbed to an innings defeat in the second Test. Overall, they have lost all of their last four Test matches. They lost two against England in September and two against Australia in December.

The last time South Africa looked dominating in a Test series was against India earlier this year. They won a three-match series 2-1 under the leadership of Dean Elgar. They came from behind to win the series. However, in this ongoing series, they have looked timid as a unit and their batters have not been able to counter the pace from the Australian trio of Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Scott Boland.

With the series in the bag, Australia have decided to rest Mitchell Starc and Cameron Green from the final Test. Both of them are suffering from finger injuries and will miss the final Test. Matt Renshaw and Ashton Agar are named in the squad for the third Test.

David Warner is leading the run-scoring tally with 203 runs from two Test matches. Kagiso Rabada with 10 scalps has taken the most wickets in the series so far. This includes two four-wicket hauls from the pacer.
