Australian Cricket team head coach Justin Langer has hinted at unleashing two spinners against Indian National Cricket team in the upcoming three-match ODI series starting from January 12 (Saturday).

Meanwhile, Australia have named off-spinner Nathan Lyon and Adam Zampa in their squad. The hosts will be keen to return to winning ways as they have managed to win only three of the last 21 encounters. It sets the stage for an intriguing selection showdown between Adam Zampa and Nathan Lyon, although Justin Lanfer insists they can work well together in the same XI.

There’s no reason why not. A lot of the teams around the world are doing it,” Langer said. “No doubt India will do it against us,” he added.

Moreover, away series against India and Pakistan in the coming months will give Australia’s best spinners a better chance to make their case before the World Cup squad is picked. In addition to, Justin Langer noted that the World Cup is still up for grabs.

You’d like to think nobody ever feels confident they’re locked in,” he said.

Nathan Lyon has played 15 ODIs in a stop-start career dating back to 2012, but Langer is adamant the Test offspinner can be just as potent in canary yellow.

He’s the best spin bowler in the world,” Langer said. “It would be a wasted opportunity not to have him in white-ball cricket … particularly with a World Cup coming up. He’s also a gun fieldsman … like a little whippet,” he concluded.

So far, after playing out a 1-1 draw in the T20I series, India scripted history when they won the Border-Gavaskar series 2-1.
