Babar Azam Has Hunger And Desire To Score Runs: Younis Khan

During a virtual conference with reporters, Pakistan coach Younis Khan said that Babar Azam is one of the top players in the world.

“Babar Azam is one of the top players in the world and he went through a process and got the time he needed to grow as he has been with the team for a good few years now. The most important quality that Babar has is the desire and hunger to score runs. We are also seeing his captaincy improve with each outing as his shot selection,” Younis Khan said.

The former Pakistan cricketer Younis Khan also said that Babar Azam is improving his fitness and technique as there is a lot of expectation from him.

“Being a top international player, there are a lot of expectations from Babar Azam. That’s why he is improving his fitness as well as his technique. The demand for fitness in today’s games is very high. Sometimes people say that they see glimpses of us (Younis, Yousaf and Misbah) in Babar, Fakhar and Rizwan which feels like an achievement for us,” Khan further said.

Talking about Pakistan’s ODI and T20I series victory against South Africa on their away tour, coach Younis Khan said that the tour was a good learning experience for the players.

“Overall, the tour was a good learning experience for our players and especially the top order batsmen and bowlers excelled during the tour. But the middle-order batsmen didn’t produce good results during the series. We are lacking in this area and we have to address this area well before playing the T20 World Cup in India,” Younis further said.

Azam won Man of the Match in the first and third ODI against Pakistan. In the T20I series, he was awarded player of the series. In 4 T20I matches,  Azam scored 210 runs and was the highest run-scorer in the series. He also smashed 1 century and 1 half-century.
