Just four days after Bangladesh whitewashed England in a T20I series on March 14, the first BAN vs IRE ODI series started. The hosts won the first ODI in Sylhet by a mammoth 183 runs. The next two ODIs will also be played at the same venue with the second ODI on March 20. The match starts from 1.30 pm IST which is 2 pm local time.
Bangladesh scored 338/8 in the first ODI with Shakib Al Hasan scoring 93 and Towhid Hridoy scoring 92 on his ODI debut. It was a complete performance from Bangladesh who bowled out the visitors for just 155 with Ebadot Hossain taking four and Nasum Ahmed three wickets. They now have a chance to complete an ODI series win on Monday.

This series is not a part of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup Super League but is quite significant for the Irish team. Currently, Ireland is placed 11th on the table with 68 points from 21 matches whereas Bangladesh is already qualified. They need to finish in the Top 8 to qualify for the mega event without playing qualifiers.
The Irish team are on the road at the moment starting with this ODI series which will culminate with a one-off Test match against England at Lord’s from June 1-4. In case they fail to qualify directly for the World Cup, Ireland will need to play the qualifiers in Zimbabwe between 18 June to 9 July.

Bangladesh will not make things easy for the visitors in home conditions. They tested England against spin in the T20I series and will do the same to them in this ODI series as well. In Bangladesh, Ireland will participate in three one-day internationals (ODIs), three Twenty20 internationals (T20Is), and one test match.
Meanwhile, Shakib got into a league of his own as he became just the third cricketer overall in ODI cricket to score 7000 ODI runs and pick 300 wickets. He joined names like Shahid Afridi and Sanath Jayasuriya as only two other cricketers with the same feat in ODI cricket.
