Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan backed the team’s idea to play more bowlers in the recent Test match against Ireland, which they won by 7 wickets. Shakib Al Hasan said that when a team wants to win Test matches, they need to induct 5-6 main bowlers in their squad.
In a recent Test match against Ireland at home, Bangladesh inducted 3 pacers in their playing XI in the form of Shoriful Islam, Khaled Ahmed, and Ebadot Hossain. Bangladesh often doesn’t follow the strategy of playing 3 full-time pacers.

Spinners in the playing XI were Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, along with spin all-rounder Hasan. However, the spinners bagged more success than the pacers, hunting 13 wickets out of 20 while the pacers got 7 wickets in the match.

If You Want To Win Test Matches, You Should Pick 5-6 Main Bowlers: Shakib Al Hasan
After the match, when Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan was asked about why he played 3 pacers in the playing XI, he said that they wanted to play aggressive cricket and hence chose this plan. Hasan also said that if a team wants to win matches, they should pick 5-6 bowling options.

“When you want 20 wickets you need more bowlers as options, there’s no alternative. You choose less bowling options when you try to play defensive cricket and desire to draw the Test. When you want to win, you will play with five-six bowling options and big teams do the same thing too. Especially if you look at India and England, you will see them playing with five-six main bowlers and six batters,” Shakib Al Hasan said.

The Bangladesh all-rounder also said that the team gets an extra bowler if Mehidy Hasan Miraz bats at no.7. Miraz is a bowling all-rounder.
“Miraz (Mehedy) is capable to play in at number seven and if he bats at number seven then we are having an extra bowling option which is good for our team. Everyone can rest and no pressure will create on them,” Hasan further added.
Talking about the Bangladesh vs Ireland Test match, the home team Bangladesh outplayed Ireland by 7 wickets. Batting first, Ireland posted 214-10 in 1st innings with Harry Tector’s 50. Later, Bangladesh was bowled out for 369 with Mushfiqur Rahim’s century, taking a 155-run lead.
Ireland piled up 292 on the board before getting all-out in 2nd innings. Later, Bangladesh managed to chase down the 138-run target comfortably with an unbeaten 51 by Mushfiqur Rahim. He also won the Player of the Match award for his outstanding batting show.
