Kusal Mendis is now in a Dhaka hospital after leaving the pitch feeling his chest shortly before noon on the first day of the second Test, although an ECG test has “come out clear.”

Doctors “suspect muscle spasms” as the cause of Mendis’ pain, according to Sri Lanka team manager Mahinda Halangoda, who also stated that Mendis is “currently under monitoring.”

During the last over before lunch, Mendis seemed to be in pain and lay back on the ground. Medical personnel responded to him, but he departed the field shortly after, gripping his chest. “Mendis has to be sent to the hospital for a proper diagnosis and better care of his ailment,” Bangladesh Cricket Board doctor Manzur Hossain Chowdhury stated.

Mendis needed to be transferred to the hospital for “appropriate diagnosis and better management,” according to BCB doctor Manzur Hossain Chowdhury. According to Chowdhury, Mendis was dehydrated before the match, which could explain his discomfort.

Kusal Mendis continues to remain under observation:

An ECG (Electrocardiogram) test at the hospital came back clear, but Mendis is still being monitored, and Sri Lanka coach Chris Silverwood is optimistic the 27-year-old will be fit to play the rest of the Test.

“Kusal is currently undergoing certain tests to ensure his safety,” Silverwood stated.

“I’m hoping he’ll be fine and join us in the hotel tonight.”

Mendis was replaced by Kamindu Mendis. In the first innings of the drawn first test, Mendis scored 54 off 131 balls, followed by a fast 48 in the second.

As captain, Mendis led Sri Lanka to the 2014 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He was Sri Lanka’s 132nd Test player, having made his debut in the Sobers-Tissera Trophy’s second Test. He debuted in the second Test of the West Indies’ 2015 tour of Sri Lanka, making 13 runs in the first innings and 39 runs in the second.
