Bangladesh Cricket Board Releases New Central Contract List, Hasan Joy And Yasir Ali Get First Contract

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) released a new contract list for the players with Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Yasir Ali getting their central contracts for the Tests for the first time.

The previous list of 24 members was cut down to 21 this year, with five players – Soumya Sarkar, Abu Jayed, Mohammad Saifuddin, Saif Hassan, and Shamim Hossain – being cut out. Notably, Shakib al Hasan continues to have a contract despite his hesitation to tour.

He has also been rested till April 30 from all formats of cricket. He had stated a few days back that he was not in the correct mental and physical state so the right thing to do for him was to take a break. The BCB granted him leave, as confirmed by the chairman.

“Shakib wanted a rest from cricket and he has been allowed one. He never said anything about not being interested in playing any particular format. And hence, he was kept in the central contract for all formats,” BCB’s cricket operations committee chairman Jalal Yunus told The Daily Star today.

Meanwhile, the team is gearing up to travel to South Africa where they will play an ODI series followed by a 2-match Test series. It will directly clash with the IPL 2022 season and it hasn’t been confirmed whether the IPL-bound players will stay or leave.
