Mehidy Hasan, the 23-year old Bangladesh right-arm off-spinner, has attained his career-best second position on the ICC Men’s ODI bowlers ranking after his brilliant performances with the ball in the first two ODIs of the ongoing series versus Sri Lanka in Dhaka.

Mehidy Hasan returned with figures of 4/30 and 3/28 helping Bangladesh defend targets and claiming an unassailable 2-0 series lead with one game to go.

The youngster jumped three places to reach the second position; he is only the third Bangladeshi bowler to be ranked among the top two – Shakib Al Hasan took the numero uno spot in 2009, and left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak reached the second position in 2010.

Before the Sri Lanka series, Mehidy Hasan had a wicket-less 3-match ODI series in New Zealand; prior to that, he was amongst wickets picking 7 scalps in 3 games at home against West Indies. Mehidy Hasan is also the youngest and fastest Bangladeshi bowler to take 100 Test wickets.

Shakib Al Hasan continues to own the top ODI all-rounder spot with 101 rating points ahead of next best all-rounder Ben Stokes.

His two magnificent Man of the Match knocks of 84 and 125 against Sri Lanka – both times resurrected the team after two early wickets – saw him gain four places to the 14th position – his career-best position in ODIs – overleaping the likes of Joe Root, Steve Smith, and Shikhar Dhawan.

Another Bangladeshi middle-order batsman, Mahmudullah advanced two places to 38th position after his scores of 54 and 41 to give the side the impetus towards the end.

Premier pacer Mustafizur Rahman breaks back into the top 10 following his figures of 3/34 and 3/16 in the first ODI against Sri Lanka. Rahman, who held the fifth position in December 2018, leapfrogged Pat Cummins and Shaheen Afridi to take the 9th spot.

For Sri Lanka, pacer Dushmantha Chameera, after his 3-wicket haul in the second ODI, lifts 11 places to joint-61st along with teammate spinner Wanindu Hasaranga, who too has advanced eight places.

All-rounder Dhananjaya de Silva (up 9 places to 83rd) and spinner Lakshan Sandakan (up 9 places to 94th) are among the other bowlers to make improvements.

The Netherlands and Scotland ODI series has been included in the latest rankings where Scotland batsman Richard Berrington’s knock of 41 in the first match help him gain a couple of places to joint-72nd; Netherlands’ opener Max O’Dowd’s 102-ball 82 in the same game sees him go to the 150th place climbing 11 spots. Alasdair Evans, the Scotland pacer, moved up 10 places to 89th after his 5-wicket haul in the second match that helped his team level the series 1-1.
