After winning the series against Australia, they registered their first win against New Zealand in the five-match T20 series on Wednesday. Mahmudullah and Co. beat New Zealand by 7 wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, New Zealand were bundled out for a paltry score of 60- their lowest ever total in T20 cricket. Blackcaps lost their first wicket on the third ball of the first over in the form of debutant Rachin Ravindra.
Shakib then sent back Will Young before Nasum Ahmed took the third wicket of Tom Blundell to leave Blackcaps reeling at 8 for 3 inside 4 overs. Experienced campaigner, Colin de Grandhomme too didn’t last too long as he got out of for just 1 run of 4 deliveries.
Skipper Tom Latham and Henry Nicholls added 34 runs for the fifth wicket and gave New Zealand some sort of recovery. However, Saifuddin broke the partnership in the 11th over to send Latham back to the hut for 18 runs. In his next over, he also accounted for the wicket of Henry Nicholls to leave New Zealand in complete disarray.
Mustafizur took on the responsibility to clean up the tail as New Zealand were bowled out for just 60 runs. Muztafizur ended up picking 3 wickets, while Shakib, Nasum Ahmed and Saifudinn picked two wickets each.
Bangladesh didn’t start the second innings too well as both their openers went back to the pavilion inside three overs. However, the experienced duo of Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim brought the team back on track as they stitched 30 runs for the third wicket. Shakib got out on 25 but by then he had done his job for the team.
Skipper Mahmudullah then joined hands with Rahim and the duo guided the team home with 5 overs remaining. Mahmudullah and Rahim stayed unbeaten on 14 and 16 respectively.
