BBL Points Table 2023-24: Updated Standings, Most Runs, Most Wickets After Hobart Hurricanes vs Sydney Sixers, Match 5: Hobart Hurricanes vs Sydney Sixers was on fray on Monday (11th December) in the Big Bash League 2023-24. It was the fifth game of the league and the Sydney Sixers won the game by the margin of 6 wickets to register their second win of the tournament. 

The match took place at the North Tasmania Cricket Association Ground, Launceston, where Hobart Hurricanes won the toss and opted to bat first. It wasn’t a great outing for them as they failed to get going and managed just 135 runs on the board. 

Matthew Wade (11) and Caleb Jewell (42) added 34 runs for the opening partnership but after that wickets fell at regular intervals and they couldn’t get going at all. They were left tottering at 69/5. But handy knocks from Corey Anderson (17), Chris Jordan (16), and Patrick Dooley (19) powered them to a total of 135 runs. 

For Sydney Sixers, Tom Curran was the pick of the bowlers as he picked three wickets and returned with the figures of 3/19. Ben Dwarshuis and Jack Edwards also chipped in and picked two wickets each that helped the team restrict the opposition to a low total.

While chasing, Sydney Sixers weren’t off to a great start as they lost Josh Phillippe (16) and James Vince (5) early. But after that, Moises Henriques (20) and Daniel Hughes batted well and added 47 runs partnership to bring their team back into the game.

Hughes slammed a magnificent unbeaten half-century whereas Jordan Silk (23) played a vital knock and helped his team.

After the win over Hobart Hurricanes, Sydney Sixers bagged the top spot on the table. They leapfrogged the Brisbane Heat to acquire the top spot. Adelaide Strikers are third whereas Perth Scorchers are fourth on the table. The lower half of the table remained unchanged.
