BCB Having Difficulty Finding A Slot For BPL 2024

In light of the forthcoming general election, Bangladesh Cricket Board President Nazmul Hasan expressed worries about conducting the next edition of the Bangladesh Premier League, the country’s lone franchise-based T20 event, on schedule.

The BCB announced the seven teams for the next BPL cycle while also confirming the tournament dates: BPL 2023 from January 6 to February 16, BPL 2024 from January 6 to February 17, and BPL 2025 from January 1 to February 11.

General Elections Another Challenge Along With Other T20 Leagues For BPL

However, BCB officials stated that they may have to adjust the dates of the BPL since they conflicted with competitions like as the SA20, Australia’s Big Bash, and the UAE’s ILT20, making it impossible for teams to get famous stars of the shortest format to play in their league.

Nazmul stated that they are now having difficulty obtaining a slot for the next BPL owing to the upcoming general elections, which are expected to take place in January 2024, and that they would have to play BPL in two parts due to security concerns.

“We are not getting the slot for the next BPL and it is nearly impossible to bring out a slot. We have got one but we might need to have a gap in between if there is a general election where the security personnel will be needed,” Nazmul told reporters at the Sylhet International Stadium on Monday.

BCB To Announce Next Head Coach Before February 20

Nazmul also stated that their next head coach would be named before February 20. Bangladesh are set to begin their next venture against England on March 1, when they will play three One-Day Internationals and three Twenty20 Internationals.

Before the series begins, BCB must identify their next head coach, a post that has been empty since Russell Domingo departed the position in the middle of the season.

Nazmul further stated that he is satisfied with the amenities in Sylhet and that a location for a BCB academy has been identified.
