Premier Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is recently in the news after saying that he does not want to play in the upcoming series against South Africa. Though he is included in the tour and will be a part of the touring side.

The former Bangladesh skipper has said that he is exhausted after playing constant cricket and is not in a good frame of mind for the South Africa series.

Shakib Al Hasan said that he felt like a passenger in Bangladesh’s previous series against Afghanistan and despite his reservations was added onto the squad for the series against South Africa.

“I have spoken with Papon (Nazmul Hasan – BCB president) and agreed to play, and that is why I was in the team. After the Afghanistan series, I have given it a deep thought because it’s immaterial whether I am doing well or not because if I cannot enjoy then that is worrying. Then I am also depriving my teammates,” Shakib said.

Meanwhile, BCB President Nazmul Hasan has slammed Shakib for letting the BCB know about his willingness to skip the tour way too late. He said that the board was fine with him not playing but he should not have informed us about the same in the last minute.

“Would he have said the same thing if he was picked in the IPL? Would he have said that he is mentally exhausted?” Nazmul said explaining the situation. The Bangladesh all-rounder was not picked by any of the 10 franchises for IPL 2022 keeping his mind his unavailability for the South Africa series.

“If he not willing to play please tell us but it becomes difficult if he informs us at the last minute, then it becomes a problem. We made the plan for South Africa keeping him in mind and now when he says things it does hamper our planning.

“Members of the coaching staff and the team management are not sure what is happening,” Hasan further added.

Nazmul Hasan further said Shakib Al Hasan expressed his willingness to play the last time they had a discussion in Chattogram and now his decision to not play the series has put the entire team in a spot.

“It is surprising to be honest. I don’t know what he is saying now but his last conversation with me was in Chattogram where he said he would play and that’s all I know.”

The Tigers will tour South Africa for two Tests and three ODIs between March 18 to April 11, 2022.
