Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hasan has revealed that the board plans to have a discussion with Mahmudullah over his future in the shortest format of the game.

Mahmudullah has been going through a rough phase as a player and under his captaincy, the team has won 16 and lost 26 games out of 43. They have also lost 12 out of the last 13 T20Is, signalling worrying times ahead of the T20 World Cup later this year in Australia.

It is difficult to speak today about who will be our captain (in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup). I think it will take a month to take a decision. Let the captain come and we will have to sit with him,” Nazmul told reporters after the board meeting on Sunday in Mirpur.

Nazmul also said that they were not particularly disappointed with the captaincy of the previous leader, Mominul Haque. However, Mahmudullah’s poor form with the bat has added extra pressure and the board will need to have a chat with the experienced player.

Certainly (under-performing captain is a concern) but let him come (and let us sit) but I don’t think there will be massive change if we replace the captain.

This is a tough question (whether we are happy or not with Mahmudullah’s captaincy). We were not unhappy with the captaincy of Mominul. The name of Mahmudullah is coming up so much because he is not scoring runs and if he scores runs everything will be fine,” he also added.
