According to reports, the BCCI intends to boost the prize money for its major domestic competitions, including the Ranji Trophy, whose winner would presently get a sumptuous Rs 2 crore. The board’s staggering revenue of Rs 48,390 crore from the sale of IPL media rights is said to have prompted the move.

Sourav Ganguly, the president of the BCCI, presided over the meeting, which also included general secretary Jay Shah and treasurer Arun Dhumal.

BCCI To Have DRS Available In Next Ranjit Trophy Season

In addition to the cash awards, the Ranji Trophy will once again feature Elite and Plate divisions. The 32 teams will be split into four Elite groups of eight each for the top red-ball tournament, which is scheduled to begin in December. The remaining six teams will be put in the Plate group.

“The Apex Council has decided to give powers to office bearers to decide on the revised prize money,” the BCCI official was quoted as saying.

Deodhar Trophy Removed From Domestic Cricket Schedule

The List A event Deodhar Trophy was removed from the domestic schedule during Board’s Apex Council meeting on Thursday in Mumbai, among many other significant decisions. An article in The Indian Express claims that the culling was necessary because of a busy domestic season.

“We couldn’t find space with so many matches to be played during the domestic season which is scheduled to start from September this year,” the daily quoted a BCCI official as saying.

The Duleep Trophy will kick off the domestic season in September. Beginning with the next season, there will also be a women’s U-16 division.
