The upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2021 is expected to be hosted by India and the home side is also considered to be one of the strongest contenders to lift the trophy. And Dinesh Karthik feels that he can add more value to the Indian team and perform the role of finisher, which is up for grabs.

India boasts of an excellent top order led by Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, and Rohit Sharma. They have the likes of Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav and others to come after them including Shreyas Iyer, and Manish Pandey.

Even for the finisher’s role for which Dinesh Karthik, who made his India debut in 2004, is vying for, has the likes of Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, and Rishabh Pant in contention. However, Karthik feels his experience is what makes him an ideal candidate for the job.

He also has that amazing knock from the Nidahas Trophy tri-series final in 2018, when he made 22* in 9 balls including a last-ball six to win the match and tournament for India. However, he has not been on the selector’s radar ever since losing his place in the Men in Blue side after the 2019 World Cup. While it will be tough for Karthik to stage a comeback now, the senior player believes that he can do the finishing job if given the job.

“India needs a batsman in the middle-order who can be a finisher and I believe I can do that job,” Karthik told The Times of India.

Karthik will have the opportunity to impress the Indian selectors when the remainder of the IPL 2021 resumes in the UAE in the September-October window later this year. Karthik plays for the Kolkata Knight Riders and if performs exceptionally well, given that there is a chance that he might also captain the franchise, as their England captain Eoin Morgan might not be able to travel to UAE.
