Former IPL Chairman Lalit Modi wasn’t impressed with BCCI allowing involved betting companies to buy an IPL franchise and questioned BCCI’s financial investigations. Two new IPL franchises are set to be from the cities of Lucknow and Ahmedabad, as revealed on Monday after the bidding process has ended, and IPL 2022 will be a 10 team tournament.

The RPSG Ventures Limited has bought the Lucknow franchise for a whopping Rs.7090 Crores while Irelia Company Pte Ltd(CVC Capital Partners), who were the second-highest bidders, bagged the Ahmedabad franchise for Rs.5600 Crore. Chennai Super Kings, led by MS Dhoni, finished as the title winners of the 2021 IPL edition, which could be the last version of 8 teams.

Lalit Modi Slams BCCI For Allowing Betting Companies To Buy An IPL Franchise

Lalit Modi tweeted on Twitter, taking a dig at the BCCI for allowing big betting companies to be qualified bidders. He questioned BCCI if they have been doing an analysis of the companies that have been coming into the bidding table. He also noted about the Anti-corruption factor not being noticed.

I guess betting companies can buy an IPL team. must be a new rule. apparently, one qualified bidder also owns a big betting company. what next? does BCCI not do their homework? what can Anti-corruption do in such a case? #cricket,” Lalit Modi tweeted.

CVC Capitals Partners In Trouble – Reports

Reports have been revealed that the CVC Capital Partners who took up the ownership of the Ahmedabad franchise could be in trouble after having invested in betting and gambling companies. The report that BCCI will be investigating the case, and there might be a formal complaint soon.

CVC Capital Partners has run into trouble for its links with betting companies. It has been pointed out that CVC Capital have invested heavily in betting and gambling companies,” reports revealed.

“BCCI’s attention has been drawn to CVC Capital’s business activities and it was strange that these were not noticed during the long “verification stage” before the financials were opened on Monday evening. The Adani Group is weighing its options. A formal complaint is expected,” reports added.
