Bhuvneshwar Kumar Eyeing A Return To The Indian Team In England Series

Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar is eyeing a comeback to the Indian team for the upcoming home series against England following a long lay-off due to injury.

The seam-and-swing bowler recently returned to competitive cricket in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy where he plying his trade for his state Uttar Pradesh.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who was ruled out of the entire Australian tour due to an injury he picked up during IPL 2020, said that he has returned to full fitness following grueling rehab in the National Cricket Academy.

The Uttar Pradesh pacer said before the impending return to the IPL, he is targeting the England series for his international comeback in the upcoming series against England, which comprises of 4 Tests, 5 T20Is, and 3 ODIs.

“I am raring to go against England. I am fit after recovering from injury. I did my rehab well at the National Cricket Academy and am playing in Mushtaq Ali Trophy to prove my match fitness. Before IPL, my mission is to do well against England and I am looking forward to the opportunity. There are plenty of opportunities this year, but I am taking it one by one,” said Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

The Indian team is currently grappling with a plethora of injuries in their bowling department. Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami, who are nursing calf and thumb injury respectively, are likely to be unavailable for at least first two Tests while Jasprit Bumrah might be rested given the fact he is suffering from an abdominal strain.

And, so, it will be interesting to see if the selectors, who are due to pick the squad for the first two Tests on Tuesday, will give Bhuvneshwar Kumar an opportunity to make his Test comeback after a gap of nearly 3 years.
