Brian Vitori Suspended from Bowling in International Cricket

The International Cricket Council has suspended Zimbabwe left-arm pacer Brian Vitori from bowling in international cricket with immediate effect. The decision comes after the on-field umpires reported to the event panel of the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers of Vitori having an illegal action. This is the 3rd time; the medium pacer has been suspended from international cricket. He was earlier suspended twice in 2016.

Vitori was reported for suspect action against Nepal during one of the matches in the ongoing ICC World Cup Qualifiers. On Thursday the ICC announced that he had been suspended with immediate effect.

A press release of the ICC read:

“As per Article 3.6.2 of the ICC Illegal Bowling Regulations, Vitori’s bowling action was filmed in the next match he played after being reported, which was against Afghanistan on Tuesday, and the video footage of his bowling spells were provided to the Event Panel of Helen Bayne and Mark King, who are both members of the ICC Panel of Human Movement Specialists, for analysis and assessment. Following its review, the Event Panel concluded that Vitori employs an illegal bowling action, and, as such, in accordance with Article 6.5 of the regulations, he has been immediately suspended from bowling in international cricket.”

The ICC release further said that Vitori will remain suspended till further assessment is made on his bowling action. He has to prove his action in an ICC accredited centre, and he can resume bowling only when his action is deemed legal.

Vitori has been part of Zimbabwe playing XI in 24 ODI’s, 11 T20I’s and 4 Tests. The left-arm pacer as first suspended from bowling in international cricket in January 2016. He got cleared quickly, but in November he was reported again. He was handed a 12 month suspension from international cricket and here comes the 3rd time.
