The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC)- led by former Indian seam-bowling all-rounder Madan Lal- has recommended former spinner Ramesh Powar to take over as the Indian women’s cricket team’s head coach again.

The sources in the know of development in the Cricket Advisory Committee confirmed the news to ANI.

“Powar has been recommended. You will get the full details on the tenure and all from the BCCI soon,” the source said.

On April 13, the BCCI had invited applications for the post of the head coach of the women’s team to replace the incumbent WV Raman.

The qualification as mandated by the BCCI was the candidate should have represented India or any country or should be an NCA Level ‘C’ certified coach or should have a similar certification from a repeated institute and a minimum experience of 50 FC games.

Ramesh Powar was one of the 8 shortlisted members- four male and four female- by the Cricket Advisory Committee.

This will the second stint of Ramesh Powar as the head coach of the Indian women’s coach.

The former Indian spinner was appointed the head coach in August 2018 following the resignation of Tushar Athrote but he was sacked a few months later following his public fallout with Mithali Raj after India’s semi-final exit from the 2018 T20 World Cup.

Ramesh Powar was replaced by WV Raman in December 2018 and under his leadership, Team India made its way to the summit clash of the 2020 ICC T20 World Cup where they eventually lost to Australia. Raman’s final assignment proved to be a disappointing one as Team Inda lost both the ODI and T20I series against South Africa on home soil earlier this year.
