West Indies veteran batsman Chris Gayle has responded to the critics in style by playing a match-winning knock in the third T20I against Australia in Gros Islet. Chris Gayle hammered 67 off 38 balls to flatten Australia to win the five-match series. As a result, the Jamaican became the first batsman in the shortest format to smash 14000 runs.

Chris Gayle reached the milestone in the first ball of the ninth over by belting a six against leg-spinner Adam Zampa. With over 14000 runs in 431 T20 games, the swashbuckling left-handed batsman is well ahead of his rivals. Following Gayle is his fellow West Indian teammate Kieron Pollard with 10836 runs in 545 matches. The next on the list are the likes of Shoaib Malik, David Warner, Virat Kohli, and so on.

Before his 38-ball 67, Chris Gayle’s highest score in recent times was an unbeaten 32 against South Africa. But in the next six innings, the 41-year old could not pass 20 even once as the bowlers had the better of him, leading to his place being in scrutiny. But he stormed back to form against Australia in the third T20I, smashing seven sixes and four boundaries in his onslaught to shape a six-wicket victory for the West Indies.

Predictably, Chris Gayle also received the man of the match award for his whirlwind innings in Gros Islet. Earlier, Hayden Walsh’s 4-0-18-2 proved instrumental in restricting the tourists to 141 in 20 overs. After that, the Universe Boss struck his magic to deliver a win with 31 balls to spare.
