The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly took to Twitter to share his views on the heartbreaking defeat of the India Women’s National Cricket Team against Australia Women’s National Cricket Team in the gold medal match of the Commonwealth Games 2022.

The final of the Commonwealth Games 2022 Women’s Cricket Competition was played between Harmanpreet Kaur-led India Women’s National Cricket Team and Meg Lanning-led Australia Women’s National Cricket Team on Sunday, August 7 at the Edgbaston, Birmingham.

Australia Women’s National Cricket Team won the toss and elected to bat first. They were able to post the score of 161/8 on the board with the help of Beth Mooney’s terrific 61-run knock. Also, Ashleigh Gardner, Meg Lanning, and Rachael Haynes chipped in decent contributions.

From India, Renuka Singh and Sneh Rana bagged 2 wickets each while Radha Yadav and Deepti Sharma picked up one wicket each. Also, Indian players showed a remarkable fielding masterclass during the match.

Chasing the target, India lost early wickets of openers Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur smashed a terrific half-century and Jemimah Rodrigues contributed good 33 runs. However, other batters failed and India were restricted to 152 by Australia.

Ashleigh Gardner picked a 3-wicket haul and Megan Schutt bagged 2 wickets. Also, Jess Jonassen and Darcie Brown picked up one wicket each and Australia won the match by 9 runs to clinch the gold medal.

On Monday, August 8, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Ganguly took to Twitter to congratulate the India Women’s National Cricket Team on winning the silver medal. However, he added that Team India would be disappointed with the result in the gold medal match against mighty Australians.

“Congratulations to the Indian women’s team for winning silver ..But they will go home disappointed as it was their game tonite ..@BCCIWomen,” the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly tweeted.

Also, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah congratulated India for successfully clinching the silver medal and said that although the team lost the final, they won the hearts of millions of cricket fans.

“What an exceptional match! Congratulations to #TeamIndia on winning Silver ? in women’s cricket at the #Commonwealth2022 . Although missed on the Gold, they won millions of hearts today.@ImHarmanpreet @BCCIWomen #CWG2022 #B2022,” the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah tweeted.
