Former South Africa Women’s captain Dane Van Niekerk was astonishingly left out of T20 WC 2023 squad. Dane Van Niekerk had failed to pass the fitness test by 18 seconds. The all-rounder was seen in the commentary panel for the T20 WC 2023 where South Africa reached to their maiden T20 WC final.

Dane Van Niekerk has been one of the most successful captains for Proteas. Dane Van Niekerk had made her debut way back in 2009. She was an inseparable part of the team. The spin all-rounder had represented South Africa last in September 2021 and later was sidelined with a broken ankle.

Dane Van Niekerk On Retirement

As per ESPNcricinfo, Dane van Niekerk is set to announce her retirement from international cricket. Dane van Niekerk took to her social media handle and made a mysterious statement.

“You have to accept that some chapter in our lives have to close without closures. There is no point in trying to fix what’s already broken.” posted Dane Van Niekerk on Instagram.

Dane van Niekerk an Asset

Cricket South Africa (CSA) is due to announce central contracts for the Women’s Cricket team. Currently, Dan van Niekerk is in India for the inaugural WPL 2023 with the RCB Women franchise where RCB Women has had a forgettable championship so far where they have lost 4 matches out of 4. Dane van Niekerk hasn’t featured in any of the games for RCB which is quite astounding as she can fox the batters with her variations.

Van Niekerk played 107 ODIs where she scored 2,175 runs and took 138 wickets and was a force to reckon with in all the 3 facets of the game. Dane van Niekerk took 65 wickets in T20Is in 86 matches and scored 1877 runs with a decent strike rate of 94.94.  South African fans would be hoping that Dane van Niekerk doesn’t retire as the all-rounder’s experience would be vital for the upcoming ICC tournaments.
