Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) on Tuesday announced a 20-member squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik and off-spinner Washington Sundar return to the squad for the state team.

Karthik missed the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy tournament owing to an injury, while Sundar was out of action since he sustained a finger injury that ruled him out of the England Test series and the second leg of IPL 2021.

Left-arm pacer T Natarajan, who made his way back to SMAT 2021-22 after a long gap due to injuries, was not included in the Tamil Nadu squad for Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Baba Aparajith’s selection for Tamil Nadu is to be decided after his India A tour

All-rounder Baba Aparajith, who is part of India A squad for the South Africa tour, might join the team at later date with the subject to his availability. Aparajith’s twin brother Baba Indrajith has been named in the 20-member squad for the domestic One-Day tournament.

Tamil Nadu is paired with Mumbai, Pondicherry, Baroda, Bengal, Karnataka, in the Elite B group. All the matches of that group will take place in Thiruvananthapuram and Tamil Nadu will play its first game against Mumbai on December 8.

Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021-22 on Monday after piping rivals Karnataka in a thriller final at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Tamil Nadu were in need of 30 runs in the final two overs, it was a brilliant power-hitting show by Shahrukh Khan to help them pull off a spectacular chase in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final.

Shahrukh smashed a six off the final ball when the team required five to win, against Vidyadhar Patil’s bowling. Tamil Nadu were successful in defending their title against Karnataka, who defeated them in the 2019 Syed Mushtaq Ali final.
