The ENG vs IRE 1st ODI will be played in Headingley, Leeds on September 20. The match starts at 5 pm IST. This is England’s final ODI series before they venture as defending champions in the ICC World Cup 2023.
Zak Crawley is leading the side in the series with all the senior players rested. Joe Root is the only player from the World Cup squad who is a part of the squad for the series. All the other players will head into the World Cup after a break.
England recently defeated New Zealand 3-1 in an ODI series heading into this series against Ireland. The return of Ben Stokes was a huge bonus for the side and he made his presence felt with his career-best of 182 in the third ODI between the two sides.
Ireland, on the other hand, last played a T20I series against India in August. In June earlier, this year, they played a one-off Test match against England that they lost by. Ireland lost to Sri Lanka, Netherlands, and Scotland in the World Cup Qualifiers in June to end their hopes of making it to the World Cup. Paul Stirling will lead Ireland in the series against England.
England have been playing dominantly as they showed in the ODI series against England. They have made the “Bazball” approach their own and have been beating teams for fun. It will be interesting to see their approach in the upcoming World Cup.
