The third and last Test match of the series between England and New Zealand is being played at the Headingley, Leeds. England have already sealed the series with the victories in the first two games.

Meanwhile, Batting all-rounder Daryl Mitchell smashed his third consecutive century of the series to help New Zealand score 329 runs in the first innings.

Also, the Kiwi bowlers performed brilliantly in the first half as they were able to dismiss 6 England batters, including star batters Joe Root and Ben Stokes, at the score of just 55.

After that, England made an extraordinary comeback with the help of Jonny Bairstow and Jamie Overton’s phenomenal innings. They put up an unbeaten 209-run stand for the seventh wicket and at stumps on Day 2, England were at 264/6.

Speaking after Day 2, New Zealand batting all-rounder Daryl Mitchell said that both the teams are throwing strong punches in the match.

“It’s been the same theme throughout this whole series. As an onlooker on the sides, I reckon it would have been a hell of a game of cricket to be watching today, obviously the ebbs and flows,” Mitchell told reporters.

“We just linked it to almost a heavyweight boxing fight, the way both teams are throwing punches.”

He added that the partnership between Jonny Bairstow and Jamie Overton was great but still England were unable to take the lead.

“It was a great partnership but at the same time we’ve still got a lead and we know there’s a lot of cricket still to be played over the next three days,” he added.

“If we can chip out a couple early tomorrow morning, then it’s all game on again. Both teams are evenly poised and it will come down to small moments over the next three days as to who is going to win this one.”
