England host Sri Lanka for the second ODI at the Kia Oval on Thursday, July 01. Eoin Morgan‘s side won the first game rather comprehensively as they kept their winning streak on against the Lankans. The Lankans are yet to win their first game of the series.

They were whitewashed in the T20Is and are looking down the barrel in the ODIs as well. The series is a part of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League which acts as a qualification scenario for the ICC World Cup 2023. England are topping the points table while Sri Lanka are languishing at the bottom.

Sri Lanka have found winning difficult in the series. The inexperienced squad has failed to cope with the playing conditions with their scores getting lesser with every game they played. They scored 129 in the first T20I, followed by scores of 111 and 91 in the second and third T20Is.

They scored only 185 in the first ODI, which was chased in a canter by England. The Lankans lost their previous series against Bangladesh 2-1. They are ranked ninth in the current ICC ODI rankings. Their batsmen have not given enough runs to play with to their bowlers who have been completely dominated by the opposition batsmen.

England are on a winning momentum and are making the most of it. They are ranked fourth in the ICC ODI rankings and can certainly go up to the second spot if they win the series. Judging by how they played in the first ODI, they are favorites to win the second and the series.

The Lankans have a few players suspended by the board which makes things all the more difficult for them. They have made a good comeback in the series after losing their previous series against India 2-1. England would like to repeat what was a clinical performance in the first ODI.
