The South African batsman Faf Du Plessis was initially set to captain the Northern Superchargers but his concussion issues have ruled him out of The Hundred tournament. Du Plessis suffered a concussion while playing in the Pakistan Super League in UAE in June after having a thunderous collision with Quetta Gladiators team-mate Mohammad Hasnain in the field.

He did play any games after that and was under observation for a long time. However, after three games in the Hundred, he was expected to return to the side as the captain of the Northern Superchargers. It did not happen and the Northern Superchargers are lying at the fourth position at the moment with three wins from seven games but they do have a good run rate.
