Former Coaches Responsible For The Current State Of Pakistan Cricket: Kamran Akmal

Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal has slammed the former coaches of the national team for the current state of Pakistan cricket.

The Babar Azam-led Pakistan Cricket Team were recently thrashed 0-3 by a second-string England XI led by Ben Stokes, post which the entire team and the coaching staff led by Misbah-ul-Haq has come under the scanner.

But, according to Akmal, the damage had already been to Pakistan cricket during the tenure of the previous coaches and the same old policies of the PCB.

The current bowling coach, Waqar Younis, and Sri Lankan head coach Mickey Arthur have coached Pakistan senior team in the past decade before Misbah took over from the latter in September 2019.

Akmal alleged that it is the tactics of the previous coaches that have damaged Pakistan cricket and the current management is receiving the flake for it.

“If you have two coaches of similar types then that will cause problems. Coaches have the biggest role in constituting a team. Did the last two Pakistan coaches improve the team? They started all this and now the current management is facing flak,” said Kamran Akmal on his official Youtube channel.

The former wicketkeeper-batsman lamented the fact that T20 cricket is getting more preference in Pakistan cricket as compared to other formats.

“The players need to play cricket more and more. They need to spend more time on the ground. They need to focus on every format but unfortunately, T20 is getting more attention. Their lies the problem,” Akmal said.

He signed off by asking what has Pakistan cricket achieved before and after winning the 2017 Champions Trophy against India?

“Vicky Bhai [Waqar Younis] was the head coach earlier and then there was Mickey Arthur. What have we won after or before the 2017 Champions Trophy? We were No 1 in T20Is and in Tests just for a month. But what about India who have been on the top or five years?” he added.
