Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir has been asked to leave his coaching job after his string of Test series losses and humiliating whitewashes at home. It's not critics or former stars; now it's fans who have hammered Gambhir for India's humiliation.
India faced yet another humiliating loss in the longest format of the game, this time against South Africa at home. Since Gautam Gambhir took charge of the Indian team, this marked their second whitewash at home and the third Test series defeat.
Under Gautam Gambhir's coaching tenure, India have lost 10 of their last 19 Test matches, of which they have played 9 on home soil, managing to win 4, that too against Bangladesh and the West Indies.
Gautam Gambhir asked to leave coaching after South Africa whitewash
There has been extensive pressure mounted on the Indian coach to part ways with the coaching duties, as former players, experts of the game, and fans all have urged for the removal of Gautam Gambhir from at least the five-day format.
After the Tests, the Gambhir-led Indian side will be taking on Temba Bavuma's South Africa for a three-match ODI series. He was spotted practising alongside the Indian team on the optional day out in Ranchi. During this, a spectator targeted Gautam Gambhir for his failures.
“3-0 ghar mein, Africa ke sath 1-0. Coaching chod do (3-0 at home, 1-0 against South Africa, leave coaching). South Africa ke saath ghar mein nahi jeet sakte, 2027 ka World Cup bhool jao (Can’t win against South Africa at home, forget the 2027 World Cup)," a fan said in a viral video.

KL Rahul steps in to lead Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for South Africa ODIs
After Shubman Gill's exit following a neck injury, KL Rahul, the most experienced batsman in the ODI team, has been handed the responsibility to lead the Indian side in his absence. The vice-captain is also injured and ruled out for months.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli would not take up captaincy any further, and all-rounder Hardik Pandya is yet to make a return for India; otherwise, he would have been the most likely option for leading the team.
The three-match series begins at JSCA International Cricket Stadium in Ranchi on the 30th of November and will then be followed by the second ODI in Raipur on December 3, and the series will finally conclude in Vishakhapatnam on the 6th of December.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Tilak Varma to make much-awaited return to ODIs
With Shubman Gill missing out, Yashasvi Jaiswal gets an immediate spot in the ODI XI as the opener alongside legendary Rohit Sharma. Moreover, Shreyas Iyer, who has also been snubbed, is also to be replaced, and either Ruturaj Gaikwad or Tilak Varma is deemed ideal to take up the role.
The No. 5 spot is usually occupied by Axar Patel in the Indian ODI middle order, but he has been relieved of some pressure, and hence, either Rishabh Pant or Tilak Varma would once again come into contention for the role.
