England’s Test coach Brendon McCullum opened up about the upcoming Test series between India and England. He added that it’ll be a real challenge for the Bazball as they will get tested against the best team in the world.

England under the leadership of Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum have done great things in Test cricket and have set themselves apart from other teams. They are yet to lose a series and their Bazball approach has made even top teams look clueless.

However, their biggest challenge is on the cards now. England will be touring India for the five-match Test series. India in their own conditions are a force to reckon with and it’s fair to say that to beat them in their own backyard would be very difficult for Brendon McCullum’s army.

England recently drew the series against Australia and played a high-class brand of cricket. It is expected that they will continue with the same approach even in India. It’s fair to say that if they win the series, they arguably will bag the tag of the best team in the world.

Brendon McCullum expressed his excitement ahead of the Test series against India. He said that it’ll be fabulous to emerge as winners but even if they lose they will go down playing the Bazball approach. Speaking at the RCB Innovation Lab’s Leaders Meet India in Bengaluru, he explained:

“We have got a huge challenge against a very good Indian team in five tests in India. I am excited about it because you want to test yourself against the best side and I genuinely believe that India is the best in their own condition.

“It is going to be a good challenge for us. If we have success then fabulous, if we don’t then I know we will go down in the style that we want to go down. We are playing the game, because we love cricket and we want to try and be as good at cricket as we possibly can.”

We are very lucky that we have had some immediate success – Brendon McCullum

Brendon McCullum further highlighted the success England has got playing an aggressive brand of cricket. He added that some of the players in their group have realised their potential and he feels happy about it. He added:

“During the time that you are in the chair, you want to make sure you enjoy it and you shouldn’t wait till the end of your career to do so. We are very lucky that we have had some immediate success but I don’t think it is the ceiling for us. I think we have seen some guys who have unlocked their potential in the last 18 months or so and that’s what the job is as a leader; to get the most out of the people that you’re in charge of.”
