Hardik Pandya’s performances in the recently-concluded ODI series against Sri Lanka were a little disappointing for former India batsman Aakash Chopra.

After not getting the chance to bat in the first ODI, as the top-order did the bulk of the chasing, Hardik Pandya registered scores of 0 and 19 in the second and third ODI and picked a couple of wickets at an average of 48.50. That the all-rounder bowled 14 overs combined in the three ODIs should be considered a massive gain for India as he aims to return to bowling fitness in the build-up to the T20 World Cup.

Aakash Chopra. is disappointed that Hardik Pandya got out in the third ODI, which India lost, after getting a start. The right-hander was dismissed for 19 runs in 17 balls leaving India in a precarious position with debutants Nitish Rana and Krishnappa Gowtham to follow.

“Hardik Pandya had a tough series. He got a duck in the second ODI but looked good during his 19 in the final match. However, he could not carry on. Even with his pace bowling, he did not do too much of note.

“So, Hardik Pandya’s performance can be seen as a little disappointment from this ODI series against Sri Lanka. By the time Nitish Rana came in (to bat after Hardik Pandya’s dismissal in the final ODI), the pressure was too much on India,” Aakash Chopra said in his YouTube video.

I think we can pick two more teams and win any competition in the world: Hardik Pandya

Before the start of the third ODI, Hardik Pandya had marvelled over India’s strength in depth. The second string squad in Sri Lanka defeated the hosts in the first two ODIs; then they fielded as many as five debutants in the third ODI.

The Baroda all-rounder opined the Indian team is so rich in its talent pool that it can make multiple teams available simultaneously.
