Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief Nazmul Hasan made a stern retort over experienced opener, Tamim Iqbal’s statement that he has received no communication from the board over his T20I future.

Nazmul said that he personally spoke to Tamim and asked him to continue in the shortest format. Even the board of directors did the same but Tamim refused to do so in a letter submitted to the board a couple of months back.

It’s a total lie (that we have not spoken with him regarding his T20). I have called him to my house and requested him (to play T20Is) at least four times. Other members of the board also spoke with him and he said that he will not play and now look what he is saying.”

‘He (Tamim) has given in writing that he will not play despite several attempts being made to convince him (to change his mind). So, I don’t understand where the confusion is. What I want to say is that let him say what he wants to say and later we will provide (proof) what we have in our hand,” Nazmul told Cricbuzz on Monday.

“We want him to play and that is simple” – Nazmul Hasan

Tamim’s statement didn’t sit well with Nazmul but he still asserted that they are hopeful the veteran continues to play in the T20I and also starts being part of the preparation for the T20 World Cup to be held in Australia.

That six months is gone (and the letter is not regarding it). We want him to play (in T20Is) and that is simple. Now, will he play? Does he want to play the World Cup? If that is the case, he’ll need to play the T20Is against West Indies,” he further mentioned.
