Former South African batsman Herschelle Gibbs strangely named Pakistan as one of the contenders alongside India and England for winning the T20 World Cup in the upcoming edition. The right-hander was part of two editions for the South African side in the 2008 and 2010 T20 World Cups.

Gibbs had an excellent career for the Proteas in all formats and opened the innings alongside Graeme Smith on most occasions. His match-winning knock against West Indies in the inaugural match of the T20 World cup will be remembered always and he was also one of the best fielders going around the world.

Herschelle Gibbs Feels Conditions Might Determine Favour The SubContinent Teams

Gibbs revealed in an interview that England, Pakistan, and India to be the strong favorites for winning the T20 World Cup. He also reckoned that Sri Lanka or Bangladesh could even have a chance and the conditions might favor these subcontinent nations. He did not mention the big teams like Australia or South Africa who are expected to struggle in the UAE conditions.

“Definitely [I would say] England, Pakistan and India. You never know, Sri Lanka could be in with a shot or maybe even Bangladesh. I think definitely, for now, Pakistan, India and England for now. It also depends on what the conditions are going to be like,” Herschelle Gibbs said in an interview with Cricket Pakistan

Herschelle Gibbs Feels West Indies Threat Could Be Ineffective If the Pitch Is Turning

Gibbs ruled out the possibility of the defending champions West Indies retaining the trophy unless the pitch doesn’t offer spin. He mentioned Pakistan’s unpredictability to be a factor and added that West Indies might not have the same impact when the ball does not come into the bat.

“The unpredictability of Pakistan is always in the mix. Obviously, India and England [are strong sides]. A lot depends on the wickets. If it is going to turn a little, I don’t think the West Indies are going to be as dangerous because they like the ball coming on to the bat. They like wickets that don’t turn. If there is spin, it doesn’t always suit the West Indies,” He added
