Former Australia National Cricket Team all-rounder Shane Watson has stated that the star India National Cricket Team opening batsman KL Rahul is at his absolute best when he is not playing conservative cricket.

India National Cricket Team vice-captain KL Rahul performed poorly in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. He scored just 128 runs while opening the innings with Rohit Sharma in 6 games. Rahul scored his runs at a poor average of 21.33 and a terrible strike rate of 120.75.

Also, KL Rahul faced heavy criticism for playing conservative cricket in the World Cup and for not providing good starts to the Indian team. Speaking to The Cricket Monthly, Watson talked about Rahul and said:

“The thing I’d say, just specifically to KL Rahul – he’s at his best when he’s just taking the game on. Not trying to just rotate strike or being a bit more defensive.”

Watson further said that Rahul is capable of playing several different types of shots and he has the ability to put a lot of pressure on the bowlers. However, the former Australian all-rounder feels that Rahul is a bit defensive at times which does no good to him.

“When he’s batting purely on instinct and putting a lot of pressure on the bowler because he’s just got every shot in the book – wherever they bowl it, he can just hit that ball for a six or a boundary. When KL’s a little bit more defensive in his mind, that’s when, like all batters, you’re a lot more susceptible to being exposed,” the former Australia all-rounder further said.
