Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has mentioned that Shardul Thakur has got enough opportunities in the Indian team only after the stint he has had with the Chennai Super Kings side. It indeed is true to the extent that the all-rounder has picked up 55 wickets in the last four seasons for the men in yellow, and he finished the top wicket take in the UAE phase of IPL 2021 as well.

His wicket-taking ability has never been a question, and if he can control the run flow, he will undoubtedly be one of the highly impactful players on the side. Thakur had been very impressive in the longer formats with his ability to bat down the order, and he is going to play a huge role for India in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021.

Virender Sehwag Feels Shardul Thakur Changed The Game In The 11th Over

Virender Sehwag mentioned that Shardul Thakur’s fortunes have changed after his stint with the Chennai Super Kings side and reckoned that his two wickets in the 11th over of the final totally changed the game on its head. He added that Thakur has made a career in the Indian side, with CSK as the platform.

“He is CSK’s highest wicket-taker this season. He came to bowl the 11th over where he took two wickets and the game changed from there. His fortunes have changed ever since he has joined Chennai Super Kings. He’s played most of his cricket for India after playing for CSK,” Sehwag told on Cricbuzz.

Virender Sehwag Feels Thakur Wasn’t A Regular Starter Until He Played For CSK

Virender Sehwag mentioned that Shardul Thakur wasn’t a regular starter until he started playing for CSK and highlighted his progress on the Indian side. He added that Shardul Thakur has improved as a bowler highly, and his performance has not been a question mark now.

“Before joining CSK, he used to be in and out of the team, but having played for Chennai, he entered the Indian Test team, the one-day side, and the T20 unit as well. Like I said, his fortunes have changed, not only because he has played for CSK but also because he has picked up wickets and performed well,” he added.

Shardul Thakur is expected to make the playing XI in the second warm-up fixture against Australia.
