“I Am Feeling Much Stronger Than What I Felt During The World Cup” – Shaheen Shah Afridi

The 22-year-old Pakistan National Cricket Team premier left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi has said that he is feeling much stronger and is eager to make his comeback to competitive cricket pretty soon.

Shaheen was last seen in action in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 final against England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and since then he has been out with a knee injury.

The knee issues have troubled the young left-arm pacer for quite some time as he also missed the Asia Cup 2022 and the home T20I series against England ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 due to a knee injury. He is expected to return to competitive cricket during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season eight, which will begin on February 13.

Speaking to Geo News, Shaheen Shah Afridi said that he is bowling with full rhythm and is gradually increasing his bowling workload to return to top-level cricket very soon. He stated:

“I am feeling much stronger than what I felt during the World Cup. I’m bowling with full rhythm and eager to make a comeback very soon. This week, which ended today, I bowled around 19 overs. Next week, I will be bowling around 25 overs. It is good to be back in the ground, I missed this all so much and I am thankful to the Almighty for this.”

Ahead of the three-match ODI series between Pakistan and New Zealand, the 22-year-old trained with the squad and bowled four overs as well as participated in fielding drills with coach Abdul Majeed. The left-arm pacer also credited the team’s physiotherapist Cliffe Deacon for his rehab work.

Shaheen Shah Afridi led the Lahore Qalandars to their maiden title in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2022. Notably, Qalandars defeated the Mohammad Rizwan-led Multan Sultans by 42 runs in the final to win the championship.

Meanwhile, Shaheen Shah Afridi has said that the Lahore Qalandars are even stronger now and will produce even better results this time around. The youngster also said that he is looking forward to making his full-fledged comeback to cricketing action during the tournament. He said:

“We are a very good side and I am confident that we’ll produce better results than before. I am very happy with the team, as we have overcome where we lacked last year and I believe that Qalandars are stronger this time.

“The PSL is the biggest brand for Pakistan and I am looking forward to making my full comeback during that tournament.”
