India’s U19 World Cup winning team captain, Unmukt Chand blames Delhi’s petty politics for his ouster from the team.

Meanwhile, post the U19 World Cup in 2012, he was the next big thing in Indian cricket.

However, now he has almost faded away into the line of aspirants working hard to earn that India cap. Unmukt made an immediate impact following his return from New Zealand. He also led the India A side numerous times.

However, now he finds himself out of the state-side. Meanwhile, he has 60 first-class games scoring 3184 runs with eight hundred to his name. Further, he made his Ranji Trophy debut in 2010 against Gujarat.

Blames Delhi’s petty politics:

The swashbuckling right-handed batter blamed Delhi politics for his ouster from the team. Further, he added it was shocking to hear the news of getting axed.

Getting dropped from Delhi was the biggest disappointment of my life. Delhi made me the scapegoat of petty politics in the team. While playing a T20 zonal match in Mumbai two years back, I heard the news of getting axed from the one-day side. I was leading India A in a couple of months before that and was the highest scorer there. I had been the top run-getter for Delhi the previous season, and they dropped me. That was shocking,” Chand said to TOI.

Meanwhile, Chand cites ouster from Delhi team as the reason for not getting an IPL team this year. Further, he feels getting axed four days before the auction left a negative impression on the franchises.

However, Chand only played two matches for Delhi, one of them being the final.

However, he was quick to show his talent scoring a brilliant half-century. But it didn’t help his cause to get a team in the IPL.

Mission comeback:

The 24-year old Chand feels the ouster from Delhi side liberated him as a person. Also, he is now aiming for a comeback having scored more 400 runs in the last eight games for Delhi across formats.

I had lived my biggest fear of getting dropped from the Delhi Ranji team, and thus overcame the fear by only realizing the next day that it was a mental barrier and nothing else. I went beyond the fear. It liberated me,” he said.

Don’t rush. Keep working on the game. Be hard on yourself but don’t forget to love yourself,” Chand concluded.
