Delhi Capitals opener Prithvi Shaw was one of the most destructive batsmen in IPL 2021 and asserted his dominance at the top. With 308 runs in eight matches, Prithvi Shaw was the fourth-highest run-getter in IPL 2021 and formed a fearsome opening combination with Shikhar Dhawan. The youngster recalled his six boundaries in an over against Shivam Mavi, claiming he lost count of the deliveries before Shikhar Dhawan reminded him.

Prithvi Shaw became only the second batsman after Ajinkya Rahane to hit six boundaries in an over when he did so this year against Kolkata Knight Riders’ Shivam Mavi. The 21-year old struck 82 off only 41 deliveries as the Delhi Capitals chased down 155 comfortably to pick up a win by seven wickets. Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan notably stitched a 132-run opening stand.

Prithvi Shaw recalled Shikhar Dhawan reminding him there is one more ball left since Shivam Mavi bowled the first ball as wide. The right-handed batsman remarked he came to know only after the fifth delivery that one more was left. Shaw highlighted that he had not thought of anything apart from hitting boundaries and was firm on putting one more to the fence after coming this close.

“Actually I came to know after the fifth ball that a sixth ball was left because Mavi had bowled the first ball as a wide. So, I was counting that ball as well and it had slipped my mind. So, Shikhar Dhawan told me one more ball is left. Then it clicked me. I had not thought anything while hitting the first five boundaries. But I was definitely thinking about that before hitting the sixth boundary, that I have come close after hitting five boundaries in five balls and should try one more,” Shaw told India News.

Simultaneously, Prithvi Shaw lauded Shivam Mavi, remarking that he is a good bowler as they have played in the U-19 World Cup together. The Maharashtra-born cricketer revealed that Mavi told him not to hit too much and Shaw asked him not to bowl too fast.

“Mavi is a very good bowler. He has played the under-19 World Cup with me. He and Kamlesh Nagarkoti are both my good friends. Before the match, I was telling him not to bowl too fast and he was telling me not to hit too much. So after the match, he was telling me that he had asked me not to hit,” he added.
