Former Australian bowler Brad Hogg heaped praise over Indian opener Rohit Sharma and wants him to score a hundred before the end of the five-match Test series.

Rohit played showed a rock-solid defensive approach in both of his innings at Headingley in the third Test, something which he has transformed in England and before that he was often criticised for gifting away his wicket.

Rohit is a great hitter in white-ball cricket and sometimes when he sees a loose ball he just tends to punish it but eventually ends up losing his stay on the crease. But in Leeds, the Mumbai batsman was in a different mode as he just scored 59 from 156 balls and in his 82-run stand with Cheteshwar Pujara, the latter scored 44 runs.

The way Rohit Sharma has adjusted playing late is unbelievable: Brad Hogg

Hogg, who himself has been a critic of Rohit Sharma in Test cricket, was impressed with the batter’s recent performance and wants him to score a century in the remaining two matches.

“The way Rohit Sharma has adjusted playing late is unbelievable. I have been one of those commentators who has been criticizing his form in Test cricket away from India.

“Even though he hasn’t scored a hundred in the series so far, he has shown that he is a class act and deserves more accolades at the Test level when he is away from India. I just hope he finishes off the series with a century because he deserves it the way he has adjusted,” Hogg said on his YouTube channel.

I think the leadership group should let Rishabh Pant play his natural game: Brad Hogg

Indian wicket-keeper Pant scored only one run in the second innings as Ollie Robinson angled the ball across to force the batsman to push the ball, which he eventually nicked to Craig Overton at third slip.

Pant is under a dilemma whether he should play his attacking game to boost India’s score or move back to his defensive mode in order to save his wicket.

Hogg is of the opinion that Indian team management should allow the batsman to play according to his natural game because he hasn’t gained enough experience playing in a defensive mode.

“I am a little worried about Rishabh Pant at the moment because when India were under pressure, there was a bit of confusion in the way he wanted to go about his innings. I think the leadership group should let him play his natural game because he hasn’t got enough experience behind him in that defensive game yet in England,” Hogg said.

Pant has scored only 87 runs from five innings at an average of 17.4 in the ongoing Test series.
