Middle-order India batsman Suryakumar Yadav hailed opener, Prithvi Shaw, for his outstanding batsmanship and termed him as ‘Showstopper’, for someone who attracts all the eyes when batting.

Shaw has been in thunderous form this year, whether in the Vijay Hazare Trophy – 827 runs at an average of 165.4 – then the IPL 2021 – 308 runs in 8 innings while striking at 166.49 – and now has carried the same to his international return – 105 runs in 3 ODI innings at a strike rate of 125.00 against Sri Lanka.

Suryakumar Yadav, who bagged the Players of the Series award against Sri Lanka, applauded the 21-year-old for the hard work he has put in in his fitness and form.

“I only have one word for him. Whenever I see him bat or whenever I meet him, I only call him a ‘showstopper,’ meaning he is someone whom you love seeing and who loves everyone to have an eye on him,” Suryakumar Yadav said after the third ODI agaisnt Sri Lanka.

“So, whenever he bats, he bats like that. And I would love to see him remain the same. He is batting brilliantly. His attitude while batting is brilliant. He has worked very hard on his fitness. It is really good to see him doing so well.”

From here on, how I build it is all in my hands: Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav is a late bloomer in international cricket for having made his India debut after the age of 30. But in his five international innings so far, he has looked calm, composed, and well-prepared for the big stage. He is amongst the leading batsman in contention for a spot in the squad for the T20 World Cup.

He hit a sparkling fifty on his maiden T20I innings, and now was Player of the Series in his debut ODI series. The right-hander is excited for the journey ahead, and acknowledges that his future in the Indian team is all in his hands.

“Obviously, everyone dreams of playing for India. It has been a lot of effort, lot of grind, lot of patience behind this. It has been worth the wait, and I’m really happy about it. From here on, how I build it is all in my hands. I’m really excited for the journey ahead,” the Mumbai Indians batsman added.
