England Test spinner Dom Bess is one of the specialist spinners in the English squad for the five-match series against India. India and England will lock horns in five Tests, starting from the 4th of August in Nottingham. Dom Bess, who will play his second Test series against India, stated he wants to enjoy his game without putting pressure on himself.
Dom Bess, the off-spinner, could not deliver impactful performances when England toured India for four Tests earlier this year. The 24-year old was axed after the first Test before returning for the final one. In two Tests, he managed only five scalps at 39.40, with best figures of 4/76. But Bess has shown signs of potential, taking 23 scalps in ten county championship fixtures at 33.80.
Dom Bess revealed it’s the first time he played so much cricket and discovered a process, performing across facets for Yorkshire without putting pressure on himself. The off-spinner feels he has found a new balance, having earned a spot in the Test squad again.
“This is probably the first time where I have played a lot of cricket and found a process. I have contributed with the bat, ball, and in the field with Yorkshire but not put pressure on myself. I just wanted to enjoy my cricket again. And I guess I have found the balance now where I have been picked for the England squad again,” Bess stated as quoted by Times of India.
It is an exciting time but there is no pressure from me to put myself under: Dom Bess
Dom Bess revealed he feels excited and there is no pressure to put himself under, wanting to enjoy the series after doing all the hard yards. But the 24-year old does not want to focus on the Ashes now, realizing how good a side India is from home and away. Hence, Bess wants to make an impact against India first.
“It is an exciting time but there is no pressure from me to put myself under. I just want to enjoy this series because I know how much I have worked this summer and what I have done. I don’t want to go too far head though. We have five Tests against India and we know how good they are home and away. It wouldn’t be the best thing to think about the Ashes when there is this big series coming up,” he added.
