South Africa veteran fast bowler Dale Steyn might be inactive in international cricket as of now; however, fans still remember his exploits. Dale Steyn had established himself as one of the best fast bowlers of the generation and was a highly competitive cricketer. The 38-year old, who debuted in international cricket in 2003, revealed he used to hunt down batsmen like a bully.

Dale Steyn is arguably one of the best bowlers to step foot in the 22-yard pitch and his numbers suggest so. The 38-year old’s 699 wickets are the most by any South African bowler, while his 439 Test scalps are the most for South Africa. Not only was Steyn efficient in executing yorkers, in-swing, and outswing deliveries, the veteran could generate aplenty even from an unresponsive pitch.

The 93-Test veteran retired from Test cricket two years ago due to recurring injuries, while it looks unlikely for him wear the national colours again. In 125 One-day internationals, Steyn has taken 196 wickets at 25.95, while producing 64 scalps in 47 T20 internationals. Nevertheless, he continues to make himself available in franchise cricket, plying his trade in IPL, PSL, LPL, and BBL.

I got a lot of tailenders out, but it didn’t bother me: Dale Steyn

Dale Steyn revealed that he was like a bully, picking on the weak guys most of the time as he did not dismiss a lot of great batsmen in his early days. The right-arm speedster stated that with Makhaya Ntini getting a lot of top-order wickets, he used to feed on that took on the weak guys of the opposition. But Steyn took heart in the fact that he got rid of the opposition players, irrespective of whether it was tailenders.

“I felt like I was a bully. What I meant was I liked to pick the weak guys and for a long time I didn’t get many of the great batsmen out. Makhaya took a lot of wickets at the top of the order. I would feed off that. I’ll be like a lion and take on the weak one and looking around, ‘who is the weakest prey’ and that’s what I talked about. I got a lot of tailenders out, but it didn’t bother me. At the end of the day, I was getting wickets, that’s all that really mattered for me,” Steyn told Sanjay Manjrekar on ESPN Cricinfo.
