Ajaz Patel was in the limelight after he picked all ten Indian wickets in the first innings of the second Test at Wankhede in Mumbai.

The Mumbai-born New Zealand spinner became the third player in history to achieve the feat after Anil Kumble and Jim Laker.

IPL is an amazing tournament: Ajaz Patel

Ajaz ended the match with figures of 14/225 but it ended in a losing cause for the Black Caps as they lost the second Test to India by 372 runs.

The 33-year-old said he is open to playing in the IPL if he gets picked by any of the franchises and called the cash-rich league an amazing tournament.

Yeah, hopefully if the opportunity presents itself, I would love to play in the IPL [Indian Premier League] in India,” Ajaz told NDTV.

“It’s an amazing tournament. Everyone follows it really closely and it brings a lot of cheers and thrills around the world. So, it’s a great tournament and I will be privileged if the opportunity comes,” he added.

There’s a lot more left in my career: Ajaz Patel

Despite getting the attention after his recent success in India, Ajaz intends to stay grounded and not take the fame to his head.

“I’m not too sure to be honest with you. I’m very much in the present at the moment. Yes, I’ve achieved something amazing, but it’s a new day and there’s more cricket to come,” Ajaz said in a media interaction.

“So for me, it’s about staying grounded as the person that I am, down to earth and nothing’s really changed.

“And it’s not going to really impact me too much because I know there’s a lot more left in my career. And if you look at my career, I’m 11 games in and I hope to be one of those cricketers that’s played 80 or 90 games for New Zealand by the end of my career,” he added.

Ajaz is the leading wicket-taker of the series with 17 wickets from both games at an average of 22.06.
